Choosing the Right Bed

CHOOSING THE RIGHT BED

You can choose from a wide variety of beds depending on the space and size of the room.

The most important thing that completes your bedroom is the bed. It’s the first thing that you think of while deciding the design of the bedroom.

There are several kinds of beds available in furniture stores, each with its own benefits, the choice is a hard one. Here are some stylish and sophisticated options, to make your task easier.

Maharaja Bed

If you can’t find a palatial house in the city, no problem, you can at least feel like a princess in your bedroom! A wooden bed with beautifully carved headboard and legs is the best way to identify a maharaja bed. To give it an authentic Indian look, dark-wood polish would work best. This kind of bed would be apt for a spacious bedroom as they are quite large and usually dominate the room. To complete the overall look, you can also drape the bed with rich, silken bed sheets. Don’t use this bed for the children’s room as it would look too formal.

PLATFORM BED

A platform bed, also known as a cabin bed, is a bed with a base consisting of a raised, level, usually rectangular horizontal solid frame, often with rows of flexible wooden slats or latticed structure meant to support just a mattress. This platform alone provides adequate, flexible support and ventilation for a mattress, eliminating the need for a box-spring or separate bed base (foundation).

BUNK BEDS

A bunk bed is a type of bed in which one bed frame is stacked on top of another, allowing two or more beds to occupy the floor space usually required by just one. They are commonly seen on ships, in the military, and in hostels, dormitories, summer camps, prisons, and the like.

Perfect for your children, especially if they share a bedroom, the bunk bed is often a favorite. Apart from saving space, the kids will love taking turns to sleep on the upper bunk. Ensure that the upper bunk has a railing high enough so that your child doesn’t roll off.

WROUGHT IRON BED

Wrought-iron beds look attractive and also come in a variety of designs, but the more elaborate the curves and corners, the more dust is likely to collect on them.

Make sure to clean them regularly, if your child is asthmatic or allergic to dust these beds are light and easy to move around in the room. Jumping on the bed is strictly not allowed as this might result in the base getting bent, and backaches. Consider the base of the bed being made of wood so that it is stronger and lasts for a much longer time.

This could be quite an investment on the bed, but don’t expect too much if you plan on selling it later the resale value of wrought-iron furniture is really low.
